The One About Lights, Camera And Action.

Guys, how are you holding up this rona season?. It has been tough to be honest. We remain thankful for life, for all the privileges we have been afforded this trying times whilst praying and helping people that do not have it as easy as us. I have been unable to write anything for the past few weeks because I have been so lost and frankly, I was also taking my time to process so many things. I don’t have a lid on them yet but we move regardless.

The intention of this post is to take your mind off of the pandemic for a while. There was a time I did a poll on my IG story asking people to mention celebrities they like for no apparent reason. The responses I got really resonated with me so I am going to be doing a thread of MY own celebrities (popular people) that I generally stan. I initially thought I didn’t like them for a particular reason but upon digging deeper, I realised they indeed had a few things that endeared me to them, so here we go in no particular order.

Chrissy Teigen – This woman makes me laugh, she is so so funny . She is so genuine and doesn’t hide how she feels despite the fact that she is supposed to maintain a level of decorum as a celebrity in her own right and also wife of the John Legend. Chrissy will wear towels anywhere if she is allowed, she just wants to be comfortable in her own skin and I like that a lot. I won’t even dwell much on the kind of relaxed relationship she seems to have with John, they troll each other online in the best way. If there is anyone’s house I would have loved to be trapped in during this lock down, it will be hers definitely. She is constantly cooking up a storm, she has about 2 published cookbooks and a recent show about being the judge over petty issues people face. Now you know why I love her, you can find out more about her here.

Adesua Etomi – Wellington – Everyone that knows me well enough know that I carry a torch for Susu. The first time I saw her perform was in 2012 or 2013 where she was in a Terra Kulture play. I kept gushing to my friends about how beautiful she is. Fast forward to The Wedding Party and I loved her even more. She carries herself with such grace and class that money cannot buy. She loves the Lord and doesn’t hide it. She has a sense of humor, she also comes off as very down to earth. She has such an air of elegance and pure joy around her that you really just wanna hug her tight if you do see her. She embodies every role to a T, okay enough, I love Adesua and the day I get to meet her in person, I will definitely be gushing.

Ryan Reynolds – This man doesn’t take himself seriously in any way. His sarcasm is off the chart. I love how much he appears not to care about anything or anyone. Ryan is the king of dark humor, devilish smile as described in romance novels. Again, I love a couple that’s completely at ease with each other, I believe his online humor met a good match in Blake Lively, his wife. If you don’t believe me, Google Ryan Reynolds trolling his wife and vice versa.

Will Smith – Will Smith happened to Instagram. Before him, we were doing IG all wrong. Will is a bundle of good vibes all around, you can’t go to his page and not come away either smiling or encouraged. He came back and started doing things to tick off his bucket list while at the same time being such a ray of sunshine to people online. I like Will, Uncle Will.

Genevieve Nnaji – Premium black woman. That’s it, that’s all I really have to say about this beauty queen. She is always living her best life with her girlfriends, yet in a “don’t stain my white” sort of way. May I reiterate to you that her white has never been stained. I will forever stan.

Rihanna – There are so many sides to her and I love all sides. Rihanna the philanthropist, Rihanna the business mogul, Rihanna the fashionista, Rihanna the artiste. All shades of her have my heart. I like the fact that she changed the make up game for women of colour, I use Fenty foundation and it’s not all just hype, the product is good. She has not put herself in the box of just a musician, she’s shown the world she wins at anything and that appeals to the entrepreneur side of me. More music from her won’t be bad sha, you people that have her number should help me beg her. I love RiRi.

Don Jazzy – First offs, he’s Rihanna’s future husband, I said what I said!!!. Don Jazzy is a good man. He is probably the only celebrity I know that turns insults directed at him to bants. His generosity is such a beauty to see seeing as he doesn’t even owe anybody anything but he keeps giving regardless. Don Baba J gave us the beauty of Mohits Records and for that alone he will always have a place in my heart. He is also someone who doesn’t take himself too seriously and I will always stan such people. I like Don Jazzy.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – She is brilliant!!! I don’t actively seek out information or news about her but everytime she has cropped up in my news or feed, she is out there defending the right of women to just be both locally and on the global platform. As culled from her website , “Her 2009 TED Talk, The Danger of A Single Story, is now one of the most-viewed TED Talks of all time. Her 2012 talk We Should All Be Feminists has a started a worldwide conversation about feminism, and was published as a book in 2014.” What’s not to love? A few Nigerian feminists have dubbed her “our president” in this feminism journey and I accept wholeheartedly.Furthermore, she is an amazing author, I have read 4 of her 6 published books, and she is in a class of her own.

Ellen Degeneres – I don’t think I know anyone who gives as generously as Ellen does on TV. She is probably only rivaled by Oprah. I have been watching her show since when I was in university and over 10 years later, she still brings the same energy to her craft every day. She is the image of consistency if ever there was one. Let me rephrase that to be quality consistency. Ellen also is one of those people that exudes joy and makes it look like anything can be solved.

Kizz Daniel – My boo. His music gives me joy every time. Mans produced an album titled “No bad song” and it had no bad song!!! Kizz actually has no bad song. I don’t know why but I love Kizz Daniel.

Honorary mention for Queen Asa – an unproblematic goddess of quality music. If not for rona, I should have been flailing my hands rhythmically to Bibanke on the 11th April, 2020 at Eko Hotels and Suites. Sigh.

Please share with me your own list of celebrities whose vibe you really enjoy any day or time. I will like to see I am not alone in loving people from afar and we may have some in common. My list is by no means complete, there may or may not be a part 2 of this post.

Continue to wash your hands, sanitize, maintain social distance and stay safe generally.

Love, light and amala.

  1. I probably don’t like any celeb. As i am of the opinion that the social space aint that real.
People sell a side of them thats ‘most sellable’ and slip up once a while.
Adesua is one of the few I cant help but love because ‘brain and beauty’.
    Then Iretiola Doyle….she mesmerizes me.
Funke Akindele nko….the only celeb i feel has legitimate wealth in the movie industry.
The rest(in my opinion) have ‘plused’ or are ‘plusing’

Maybe someday I will pay more serious attention to ‘celebrities’ and appreciate them a lil more.

—-let me not hijack Femi’s write up.

I don’t know this Heather people you are always raving about sha.

    2. I agree about everyone projecting the side of them they want people to see, it is branding 101 and even regular people do it subconsciously.
Iretiola is a good one, I love her general poise.
Ha, this your legitimate money opinion na wa o, I am not on seat please.
Thank you for reading and dropping a comment.
